The Upper Dolpo Trek takes us to the Karnali Province in the Himalayan range of Nepal. It lies between the Tibetan Plateau and the Dhaulagiri Himalayan range. The Upper Dolpo Circuit Trek is a great opportunity to trek in the low-altitude areas of Nepal. Until 1996, the area was a closed tourist zone. Similarly, Great Himalayan Trail trekkers may get a chance to go back in time and find the 1200-year-old, preserved, unchanged Tibetan culture. The most impressive thing is that there are still ancient religious teachers of Bon Po and Tibetan Buddhist culture in the region. The trek to Upper and Lower Dolpo passes through the country’s largest national park, She Foxundo National Park, with difficult and sometimes obscure paths that pass through many mountain villages.

The park is also home to musk deer, Himalayan blue sheep, and special snow leopards. The region is also home to a thrilling race of Tibetan-speaking people. The Nepal Guide Tracks and Expedition’s Upper Dolpo Circuit Track begins with a tour of Nepalganj, a city in southwestern Nepal. From there we take a short flight to Zuppel, down to Duplo—where our journey begins.

The route to Poksundo Lake in Ringmo town, within She Fuxundo National Park, takes you through old traditional villages, valleys, and wild pine, oak, and rhododendron forests. From here the trail continues to She Gompa. This Upper Dolpo trek is known for Ringmo and She Gompa. Days are spent discovering the deep green waters of Lake Poksundo and the majestic snow-capped mountains of the Kanjibor Himal. We visit the remote village of She Gompa, or the Crystal Monastery. We take a different way back from Saldang, giving us another chance to explore this part of western Nepal.
